“Original, Classic & Fun!”

Bio

Shanta Paloma is a refreshing and critically acclaimed singer-songwriter with a punk rock soul, sophisticated lyrics and an original indie sound.  According to Bostons' Metronome Magazine, she “rocks with the intensity of a magnitude 6.0 earthquake.”   As a multi-instrumentalist with worldly influences,  Paloma brings unusual talent to the stage, international radio, TV show soundtracks, compilation albums, internet mini-series, podcasts, and  (of course) to your stereo!   Her penchant for going in very different musical directions makes her music charismatic and happily hard to predict.  With passionate delivery and technical prowess, , Shanta offers poetic songs that evocatively emote as effectively around a bonfire or on the biggest stage in town.

Shanta Paloma just released a new, self-produced album ~ HEARTWORM!   "It was mostly recorded in my basement and then mixed and mastered at Sonelab in Easthampton, MA. by a sonic genius..  "He,  and some of my other friends - incredibly wonderful musicians and human beings - lent their creativity to the album, and for that I am eternally grateful.!  Yes, I play many of the instruments,  but honestly,  they made the music better than I could have imagined myself," Shanta says.

The songs of Heartworm tell a story of an- on -again/ off- again love affair,  that even when you think it died a long time ago,  "like an abandoned campfire,  its' smoldering embers still have the power to ignite a forest fire."

Her self-titled debut album also seems to center around a push and pull in relationships ~ the tension between desire and fear.

At the moment, Shanta Paloma is back at it in her basement studio, aptly dubbed The SPacement ~ "We just finished the drums to a set of jazzier songs I wrote several years ago and I've been working on tracking the rest.  I probably should be focused on touring, but all I want to do is record!    I have written so many songs that haven't been released yet and bringing them to life is really what has been  inspiring me, lately," she says.

Until recently, Shanta has been writing a song a month for a residency in Northampton, Massachusetts.  She has held many residencies in New England.  Shanta Paloma's music, her voice and her shows have been described as “emotive, original and fun!"  One fan wrote: "Shanta is a walking song - highs and lows that all come full circle, with a melody you can hold on to."

In 2015, Shanta Paloma embarked on her first one-of-a-kind solo DIY tour - The Guerilla Gigs Tour Across the United States of America.   She writes: "I spontaneously drove around the U.S. for 6 weeks, sleeping in my car and playing all over -festivals, busking, venues, and impromptu shows at national landmarks. Ha! I remember being underneath Mount Rushmore as the sun was setting. I had snuck behind the fence and was playing on the rocks under the faces. People gathered around and were requesting songs till it was dark.  And then, while on the road, I was asked to play in Toronto, so I finished the tour off in Canada.   I had so much fun, but by the end of it, my skin was awful!"

While on the road, Shanta wore a GoPro camera and collected video footage of practically the entire experience.  Parts of the GGT were edited into a mini Rockumentary, which you can watch on her Youtube channel. The rest will be released in the near future, pending the resolution of a technical tragedy. . Sign up for The SPecial List to be informed of all new releases.

In the past, Shanta has added performance art to her act, using costumes & props to embody other artists as she covers their songs; performing with a live painter on stage; and setting her performances to a SpeakEasy theme and to a Burlesque theme.

In addition to writing, producing, tracking and performing her music, Shanta  does much of her own digital design and video editing.

Shanta Paloma embodies worldly diversity.  Her name has Sanskrit and Spanish roots, (translating to "Peaceful Dove") while her actual heritage is Scottish and Filipino. Also, she grew up living in Paris, France; New Delhi & Madras, India; and in Ankara, Turkey.  Her love of traveling manifests in her music as she explores elements of various genres in her songwriting.  "Embracing difference is at the heart of World Peace," Shanta states.
