“Original, Classic & Fun!”
Shanta Paloma is a refreshing & soulful singer-songwriter with a punk rock soul, sophisticated lyrics and an original indie rock sound. According to Boston’s Metronome Magazine, she “rocks with the intensity of a magnitude 6.0 earthquake.” Brandishing guitar prowess and tech savvy producership, Paloma brings unusual talent to the stage and to your stereo. Her penchant for going in very different musical directions makes her music charismatic and happily hard to predict. She is a walking song with highs & lows that go around full circle with a melody you can hold onto. With passionate delivery, Shanta offers poetic songs of truth and passion that evocatively emote as effectively around a bonfire or on the biggest stage in town.
Voted one of the best singer-songwriters in the Pioneer Valley, Paloma can boast critical acclaim. She is well-known from her hundreds upon hundreds of performances in festivals and clubs, and regional radio & TV appearances. Her music can be heard on soundtracks; local compilation albums; and by thousands of her fans who follow her on social media. She has played famed venues, including CBGB’s, Cafe Wha?! and The Bitter End in NYC; and The Hippodrome, The Iron Horse & Pearl Street Ballroom in Western Massachusetts.
Shanta Paloma just released a new album ~ HEARTWORM!
The songs of Heartworm tell a story of an- an on again/ off again relationship that even when you think it died a long time ago, "like an abandoned campfire, its' smoldering embers still have the power to ignite a forest fire."
Her self-titled debut album also seems to center around a push and pull in relationships ~ the tension between love desire and fear, truth and games.
At the moment, Shanta Paloma is back at it, in her basement studio, aptly dubbed The SPacement ~ "We just finished the drums to a set of jazzier songs I wrote several years ago and I've been working on tracking the rest. I probably should be focused on touring, but all I want to do is record! I have written so many songs that haven't been released yet and bringing them to life is really what has been inspiring me, lately," she says.
Until recently, she has been writing a song a month for a residency at Bishop's Lounge in Northampton, Massachusetts. She has held many residencies in Western Massachusetts and has performed all over New England. Shanta Paloma's music, her voice and her shows have been described as “emotive, original and fun!"
Shanta Paloma also embarked on a one-of-a-kind Solo DIY tour - The Guerilla Gigs Tour Across the United States of America. While on a 10 day silent meditation retreat, she suddenly became inspired to leave on tour and within a few weeks, left everything and spent 6 weeks sleeping in her car, performing in major cities and busking national landmarks from Boston to Seattle, down California and then back again, through Austin and Nashville. While on the road, Shanta wore a GoPro camera and collected video footage of practically the entire experience. Parts of the GGT were edited into a mini Rockumentary, which you can watch on her Youtube channel. The rest will be released in the near future. Sign up for The SPecial List to be informed of all new releases, including a DVD and book about her DIY tour.
Of her many accomplishments, SP's music continues to spin on radio stations, such Lazer 99.3 FM Springfield, Everything That Rock; and on The River 93.9 WRSI. Her music can also be heard on several other community stations in New England and around the country and has also been featured on several compilation albums as well as on the soundtracks for two episodes of Mad Z Production's internet mini-drama, "Without You."
In the past, Shanta has added performance art to her act, using costumes & props to embody other artists as she covers their songs; performing with a live painter, Matto, on stage; and setting her performances to a SpeakEasy theme and to a Burlesque theme.
In addition to writing, producing, tracking and performing her music, Shanta is a multi-instrumentalist and does her own digital design and video editing.
